Mubarak on Ebay and Craigslist, 2011
Online intervention
In support of the uprising in Egypt in February of 2011 I created an auction on Ebay, the listing, entitled "Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian Dictator, Used" was offered in the "Political Memorabilia" category. The auction was bid up to $90.00 with close to 2,000 views before Ebay deleted the listing because, according to the Ebay message I received, "Listings of humans, human bodies, or human body parts aren't allowed on eBay" As such, I immediately put Mubarak up for sale on the local Reno Craigslist under the "antiques" category. Screenshots of both the Ebay and Craigslist ads are featured here. The story went viral rather quickly in large part due to this posting on the Village Voice Blog.
